IP Management Clinics: Strengthening SME Competitiveness through Intellectual Property in the Arab Region
As SMEs across the Arab region navigate increasingly competitive and innovation-driven markets, effectively managing intellectual property (IP) has become essential for growth, protection, and long-term sustainability. The Intellectual Property Management Clinics (IPMCs), delivered in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), were designed to support SMEs in leveraging IP as a strategic business asset.
The programme aimed to build the capacity of SMEs across different sectors by enhancing their understanding of IP, strengthening their ability to protect innovations, and enabling them to explore new business opportunities in both local and international markets.

IPMC 2 – Green Technology Industry
The second Intellectual Property Management Clinic (IPMC 2) focused on supporting green businesses in understanding and leveraging intellectual property to enhance innovation and competitiveness. Delivered in partnership with WIPO, the programme engaged 30 selected companies and ran from June 2025 to January 2026.

Programme Phases:
- Virtual Training Session – Participants attended an introductory session on IP fundamentals and WIPO’s diagnostic tools.
- Selection for IPMC – Businesses that completed the training and met the criteria were selected to join the clinic.
- IPMC Programme – From September 2025 to January 2026, participants received mentorship, training, and expert support to implement IP strategies.
Conclusion:
IPMC 2 successfully supported green businesses in strengthening their IP management capabilities. Participants improved their ability to protect and commercialize innovations, contributing to sustainable growth and enhanced competitiveness across the region.

IPMC 1 – Digital Platforms
The first Intellectual Property Management Clinic (IPMC 1) focused on supporting eCommerce SMEs in the Arab region to better utilize their intellectual property for growth and competitiveness. The programme brought together 30 selected companies and was launched during the Arab SMEs Summit on 18 November 2024, concluding on 20 May 2025.
Programme Phases:
- Virtual Training Session – Participants attended an introductory session on IP fundamentals and WIPO’s diagnostic tools.
- Selection for IPMC – Businesses that completed the training and met the criteria were selected to join the clinic.
- IPMC Programme – From January to April 2025, companies received tailored mentorship, training, and resources from WIPO experts.
Conclusion:
IPMC 1 successfully equipped participating SMEs with practical tools and strategies to manage and leverage their intellectual property. The programme enhanced participants’ competitiveness, strengthened IP awareness, and fostered collaboration among eCommerce businesses in the region.
