The MENA region is undergoing a powerful transformation fueled by innovation, digitalization, and a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit. To keep this momentum alive, UN-ESCWA, in partnership with the ICC-ESCWA Centre of Entrepreneurship and the Founder Institute, conducted Startup Readiness Series: Ideation, Funding & Scalability. 

The program consisted of four interactive webinar sessions, each targeting a crucial stage in the entrepreneurial journey. From identifying high-potential sectors in the MENA region to embedding emerging technologies and entering global markets, each session blended expert insights, actionable strategies, and real-world case studies. Designed with the needs of aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs in mind, the program is also well-suited to incubators, innovation hubs, and ecosystem enablers. This series aimed to cultivate readiness, resilience, and resourcefulness among regional startups preparing for long-term growth. The series conducted virtually over a span of four weeks, with each session featuring hands-on learning, region-specific case studies, and interactive co-creation components.

💸 Session 1: Fundraising Fundamentals

🗓 11August 2025

Summary:
This session provided participants with a practical understanding of how to raise capital at the pre-seed and seed levels. It covered fundraising strategies, investor engagement, pitching, and the basics of equity management.

Outcomes:

  • Learning strategies for raising funds at early stages.
  • Crafting a compelling pitch deck for investors.
  • Understanding how to navigate angel investors and VCs.
  • Gaining clarity on equity, cap tables, and dilution.

💡 Session 2: Startup Ideation & Validation

Summary:
This session guided participants through transforming passion into viable business ideas. It introduced practical tools such as Lean Canvas and MVPs, alongside customer interviews, to test and refine concepts while avoiding common mistakes in early ideation.

Outcomes:

  • Transitioning from passion to solving real-world problems.
  • Applying tools and frameworks for idea validation.
  • Recognizing and avoiding common early-stage mistakes.
  • Building stronger foundations for sustainable startup growth.

🌍 Session 3: Emerging Startup Trends & High-Potential Sectors in MENA

Summary:
This session explored the evolving startup landscape in the MENA region, with a focus on high-potential sectors such as fintech, Healthtech, climate tech, and AI. It also showcased real success stories from startups in high-growth industries, inspiring participants to innovate and attract investment.

Outcomes:

  • Understanding global and regional macro trends shaping the startup ecosystem.
  • Identifying high-potential sectors in key MENA markets.

🌍 Session 4: Building a Scalable, Tech-Enabled Startup from Day One

🗓 1 September 2025

Summary:
This session focused on how startups can embed technology from the start to ensure long-term scalability and resilience. Participants learned how to balance early product validation with sustainable product–market fit, design efficient systems and processes, and leverage emerging technologies for differentiation.

Outcomes: 

  • Deeper understanding of global & regional macro trends shaping the startup ecosystem
  • Identification of high-potential sectors in key MENA markets
