A key element of France's renewable energy target is to significantly enhance energy efficiency in buildings and thermal insulation. In the transport sector, France also implements a number of measures to use renewable energies and increase energy efficiency. These include car-sharing initiatives and the promotion of the use of biofuels.

While France's 2015 energy transition law requires 40% of French electricity generation to come from renewable sources by 2030, there is still much progress to be made. While great progress has already been made in onshore wind energy, solar energy still needs to be expanded almost fourfold.
