Formalization as a Pathway to SME Growth and Economic Resilience
The webinar series organised by UN-ESCWA in partnership with the ICC–ESCWA Centre of Entrepreneurship focuses on SMEs as key drivers of employment and economic activity in the Arab region, especially in fragile and crisis-affected contexts. It addresses informality driven by barriers such as high registration costs, complex licensing, limited access to finance, weak infrastructure, and low institutional trust, which restrict business growth and access to markets and support.
The series promotes business formalization as a gradual and practical pathway to resilience, growth, and inclusion, with particular attention to Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Somalia.
